My mixed media sculptures are based on the natural world – large mammals, fish, and birds. I use materials outside the usual range of art such as galvanized steel, antique advertising tins, bottle caps, scrap metal, and found objects. Each piece balances anatomical accuracy against stylized interpretation. The use of a wide range of media frees me to explore materials, textures, patterns, color, and juxtapositions.

Influences include entropy, industrial processes, and the traditional Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. Art deco styling is frequently a point of reference. My goal is to create work that appears old, patinated, and worn, perhaps even repaired, but always with good lines. As Tom Waits says of his music, “I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things.”
